Celebrating...WISHES!!

I received an email today which combined gift giving and philanthropy so I thought I should share this information with you.

For the past few years, I have done some volunteer work for The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois. (Here's a few pix of me and some friends in the office...of course, they gave us the pink workspace to work in!)Make-A-Wish (MAW) has partnered with a GREAT company, Cheryl & Co, to create a fun way to raise funds for their programs (and the cookies are delish!!). In case you don't know, MAW grants wishes to children who have been diagnosed with life-threatening conditions.

So...if you have an occasion to give a gift, please consider giving one of the MAW gifts from Cheryl & Co. Or, if you're feeling in a generous mood, place an order for yourself! YUM!! And I certainly would not mind in the least if you pass this information on to your family and friends...the more people who take advantage of this program, the more wishes that can be granted!!

Have a FAB day...and celebrate!

Celebrating...All The Single Ladies

As Beyonce sings "All the single ladies...all the single ladies...now put your hands up! oh oh oh oh oh oh..."

Single on Valentine's Day? Well there is no need to despair. Just because Valentine's Day is traditionally seen as a couples holiday doesn't mean that single girls can't have fun too!!

One of the blogs I read, CraveCrush/CraveParty provides the following list of things to do:

V-Day Alternatives for Single Gals (taken from http://cravecrush.craveparty.com/ Feb 9th, 2009 post)

Boyfriend-less on Valentine’s Day? Don’t sweat it–seize the opportunity to round up the troops and participate in a sassy, satisfying activity… sans men!

We’ve compiled a list of V-Day alternatives across the US.

Chicago
Grab your girls and attend a rare screening of the most romantic film of all time, Casablanca, at the The Music Box Theater.

San Francisco
Enjoy an Anti-Valentines’s Day interactive dinner at CookWithJames a hip, underground supper club for both couples and single people who just want to get together in a nice home, drink some wine and have some wonderful food. Indulge in a beautiful multiple course meal which will include a delicate burrata salad with wild arugula and roasted red and yellow beets, hand-made potato gnocchi with butter and sage, a winter braise of Prather Ranch beef, and saffron panna cotta for desert. The deal is that some of you will assist James in making the gnocchi! For those who do not wish to cook you can relax, drink wine and watch theaction!

This is the first time that the spectacular diamond display has appeared in Canada. The exhibition includes more than 500 pieces differing from Diamonds, with new computer-animated components and multi-media shows to illustrate the history of the jewels.

Vancouver

In addition, there will be a cashbar until bedtime, a chocolate buffet, cheeses of the world, and much, much more!

Portland
Feeling a tad cynical, or a little wild? Sign up for the Love Stinks, Let’s Drink Anti-Valentine’s Day Cruise. The bus adventure involves dancing, a little karaoke, and a whole lot of partying, up, down, and all around P-town. Pay no covers, get drink specials, and complimentary appetizers, too. $20 apiece or $175 for a group of ten. Pay no cover charges, enjoy drink specials and complimentary hors d’oeuvres, too!

This is the list that they compiled, but why not make your own. What about a build your own cupcake party...or a Sex In The City viewing party...or invite your friends over to sip some wine and make Valentine's for a Senior Center or a Hospital Ward. The ideas are endless. The objective...have fun!!

Celebrating...Wear Red Day!

Today, February 6, 2009 is Wear Red Day, a day when Americans nationwide will wear red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness. Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer of women? This observance promotes the Red Dress symbol and provides an opportunity for everyone to unite in this life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or Red Dress Pin.

So do something today in honor of wear red day...a red scarf, red gloves, get together with some girlfriends and wear red to share a heart-healthy dinner. There's so much to do...even Macy's is celebrating this awareness...with a wear red sale (in-store and on-line).

For additional information and ideas visit Go Red for Women, National Wear Red Day and About The Heart Truth.

Start loving your heart today!! Do something heart-healthy and wear red today!!

Luv Ya!!

Celebrating...SUPERBOWL SUNDAY!!!

I must admit that I am not a huge football fan. I don't have a problem watching football games and if any of the teams that I like are in the playoffs or beyond, I am estatic---but one thing that I DO love about football is The Superbowl! The excitement leading up to it, the day-of pagentry, from the pre-pregame show to the post-postgame show...I love it. And while I LOVE the game...the BEST part for me are the Superbowl COMMERCIALS!!

This year I was somewhat bummed because I wasn't able to find the 3-D glasses that were to be used for 2 of the commercials, but I forged ahead anyway. Four o'clock and I am ready to watch. Well 5-1/2 hours later, I must tell you that I was not impressed. Most of the commercials were dull, lacked content/humor/excitement and were a huge disappointment! Thank goodness the game was good or it would have been a wasted evening!! Yes, I was routing for Pittsburgh, so I am happy with the outcome, but the Cardinals (who are originally from Chicago...hee-hee) should feel GREAT about the wonderful game that they played!!! I love it when the game has you on the edge of your seat...biting your findgernails...hoping that your team can pull it off!!! And that's what today's game was! Thank goodness because the commercials...let's just hope they are better next year!!

I did manage to find a few that weren't so bad (in my opinion). The first one was my fav...not because it was a take-off of the Mean Joe Green, but because of the Product Management twist (yes, my marketing background was thoroughly amused). I liked my second fav for a similar reason...Telaflora went directly after their competition...GREAT MOVE!! My third fav...I just thought it was a good combination of old and new in this new time of change. Here's a peek...

Coke Zero: Mean Troy

Teleflora: Talking Flowers

Pepsi: Refresh Anthem
